Heavy snorers burn more calories

Heavy snorers burn more calories than the light snorers while resting, according to a research.

Scientist found that those with the most serious snoring problems burn 2,000 calories a day, compared to an average of 1,626 by light snorers while at rest.

But the study shows that snoring could cause some more serious problems and snorers could gain weight, despite the fact that they burn more calories.

Researchers looked at 212 patients, all of whom snored or had some sleeping disorders and findings revealed that the more severe a patient’s snoring, the more calories they burned while resting.

The conclusion is that the energy expenditure while asleep or resting may be affected by increased reactions in the nervous system, caused by the snoring and snoring-related conditions.

More than 3.5 million people in UK are thought to snore, it affects four out of ten men and up to three out of ten women, according to research.

Smokers are almost twice as likely as non-smokers to snore because their airways get inflamed and blocked, figures show, other factors which can make snoring worse, taking sleeping tablets, sleeping on your back, being overweight, cold and allergies can lead to blockages in the throat, causing sufferers to breath through their mouths.
