Daro, Kuala Lumpur;
The number 2 man in MCA, Dr Chua Soi Lek has resigned from his post. Resigning along with him are seven more members of Central Working Committee. Up to date twenty-one members of the CWC has tendered their resignation.
Prior to this development, the situation in the largest Chinese-based party was at a dead-end since the mass resignation of fourteen CWC members led by Datuk Liow Tiong Lai, the Vice President who is also the Health Minister.
Thus, the Central Working Committee is now composed of the President, Datuk Ong Tee Keat and those who supported him. The reason for the mass resignation is to allow for the convening of a new party election.
However, knowing MCA, many Malaysians are still asking the same question. Will Datuk Ong Tee Keat take note of the latest happening or will he still stand his ground as he always does?
The top leaders of BN is already impatient at the snail pace of reform in the party. Some observers said that it is this inability to reinvent itself that caused many ethnic Chinese voters to stay away from them.
Maybe, this is their last chance.
