Russian mountaineer Oleg Fyodorov visited Nepal the 12th time. Fyodorov, also a writer and a scientist, remembered late Sir Edmund Hillary in a talk program organized on 25 March by Nepal Mouintaineering Association in Kathmandu. He praised Sir Edmund Hillary’s selfless work for the wellbeing of Nepal’s Khumbu region where suffering Sherpas live. Fyodorov said, “Hillary is worshipped as a Godly image in the Khumbu Khumbu region.” He added, “Hillary could be quite rich had he wished for material prosperity. But he dedicated his whole spirit to the betterment of ordinary people.”
Speaking in the talk program held at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture, Nepal Mountaineering Association Chairman Ang Tsering Sherpa remembered how the Russian mountaineering exepeditions teams succeeded in exploring and experimenting the most difficult routes, especially from 1982 to 1989.He expected Russian Mountaineering institutions’ help in the environmental conservation of the Himalayan region. He said, “3,000 glaciers have now formed into glacier lakes with the potential danger of bursting.” He pointed out to the necessity of preventive measures.
