Sarawak,Malaysia;Tuesday.
With their five leaders now in detention, supporters of Hindraf who are facing charges of attempted murder and destruction of public property, slowly revealed what made them join the rally.
Hindraf is an acronym fo Hindu Rights Action Force, an organisation of extreme Hindus of Tamil origin now residing in Malaysia. On the 25th of November 2007, they held a rally despite warnings that they did not have the permit to do so.
Rally, protest and demonstrate they did which ended up in disturbances and destruction of public property. They even provoked the security forces and severely injured one policeman on duty.
Many of those hauled up to face the charges told the court and the press of promises by these leaders and their immediate lieutenants.
Slapped with high amount of bails which usually weigh their spirit and resolve down, these supporters rained court officials with pleas and stories. They were made to belief that the suit brought by the five leaders in the British Court will bear positive results.
Out of the sum of three trillion pounds, each supporter will receive the amount of one million RM. These figures are usually unattainable by these simple folks in their lifetime.
They are simple people earning just enough to keep poverty at bay. Of course they believe what they heard. Hindraf leaders are masters at spinning such tales.
When all their tales have been recorded, the Attorney General, Abdul Ghani Patail believed theses people have been cheated into doing what they heve done.
Thus, for thirty of them charges of attempted murder were struck off. For the remaining members lesser charge such as creating disorder were read and their pleas taken.
Just why is the charge of attempted murder struck off?
Members of the press and the public at large agreed that such charge would evoke racial elements among members of the public. In a multi- religious and multi-racial soceity such points must be taken into account and made inactive.
Yes, of course all the lesser charges remain and so does peace.
