Sarawak,Malaysia:Friday.
Five leaders of an extremist organisation, known locally as The Hindu Action Rights forces, were held under the Malaysian Internal security Act yesterday.
This action is the result of calls by the public that drastic action should be taken against them for demonstrating and causing public disorder earlier this month.
The five leaders are-P. Uthaya Kumar,M. Manoharan, R, Kenghadharan,M Ganapatirau and T. Vasanthakumar.
Prior to this event, the five leaders of Hindraf [the acronym of the group],have lodged a police report in London claiming that the British Government were responsible for their [alleged] marginalisation in the Malaysian Soceity.
It was the British Colonial powers that brought their ancestors who were mainly Tamils and predominantly Hindus to Malaya [now Malaysia] to work in rubber estates owned by the colonial powers.
Surprisingly, these leaders are successful in their private life. They are educated locally in Malaysian universities, joined the Malaysian Bench and rose up to become prominent lawyers. while they themselves are proof strong enough to deny their own allegations against the Malaysian Government, they continued to spread malicious words in their speeches.
When they and many of their supporters are charged in the court for causing disturbances and on one instance tried t o injure a policeman who is on duty, calls for action s on them continued to rise.
After weeks of investigation against them and when they continued to defy the government’s orders against evoking malicious speeches, the handcuffs finally came to them.
Under the Internal Security Act, one is not alowed bail and cannot be freed by any other court. Such detention may last up to two years.
