Historic Preservation Trust Awards to Be Presented on November 9

Business and individual supporters of historic preservation in Lancaster County will be honored at the 45th annual meeting of the Historic Preservation Trust on Wednesday evening , November 9, at the Lancaster Country Club (circa 1913 in its present location).
 
 
 
“Historic preservation countywide is driven by efforts of volunteers and the foresight of businesses,” said Steve Dietrich, president of the Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County. “They are community leaders, and we are pleased to recognize them for  their exceptional contributions during 2011.”
 
 
 
Two volunteer awards and five preservation awards will be presented.
 
 
 
Husband and wife team Ron Funk and Nancy Bell of Narvon will be receiving the Elvin N. Heisey Award for their dedication to Preservation Trust at a time when the trust was going through a significant and challenging transition. Bell served as president of the Preservation Trust Board of Directors from 2009 through 2010, and Funk stepped in to serve as the organization’s volunteer interim director in 2010 and 2011. 
 
                                                                             
 
Marcia Trach of Lancaster will be the recipient of the Nancy J. Haubert Award for loyalty and devotion to the Preservation Trust. She has chaired the Preservation Trust’s awards program and history tour. In preparing for the tour, Trach led an extensive research project to develop background on each of the 18 buildings featured on the countywide tour.
 
 
 
C. Emlen Urban Preservation Awards will be presented to Claire Storm for Riverstownes PA USA, the Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority for the Rieber House and the Manheim Township Historical Society for the Stoner House façade. Franklin & Marshall College will receive a new construction preservation award for its New College House, and Community Basics will receive the Community Revitalization Award for the Park Avenue Apartments.
 
 
 
The evening will also feature the keynote address “Advocacy for Cultural Landscape Preservation at the Mayer-Hess Farmstead” by landscape architect John D. Hershey, RLA, ASLA.
 
 
 
 
 
The cost for the dinner and program is $65 for members and $75 for non-members. (RSVP by Tuesday, November 1 by calling 291.5861 or emailing amy.gaston@hptrust.org) .   The event begins with a social hour at 5:30p.m. with plans to end at 9:00p.m.
