At least four security personnel were killed and one injured in a gun battle with militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district today. A self-styled commander of Hizbul Mujahideen was also gunned down by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district today.
According to sources, acting on a tip-off, army troops and police launched a joint cordon and search operation in Tarawali forest belt in Surankote last night. During the operation militants started firing to which the security personnel retaliated.
The slain security personnel were identified as Vishnu, Jurnail Singh, Maqbool Shah and Mohmmad Maroof. The encounter was still going on, sources added.
Meanwhile, a joint operation was launched in Chansar forest area of Ramban district by police and security forces last night. The slain militant has been identified as Munir Pir alias Munawar. One AK rifle, pistol, grenades and magazines were recovered from him.
