Holistic development of pilgrim city Katra on priority: Omar

 

   Jammu, January 31 (Scoop News) –   Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Tuesday reviewed the progress on various development schemes under execution in Katra at the 2nd meeting of Katra Development Authority (KDA) here.

            Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, Minister of State for Housing, Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Reasi, Baldev Raj, Principal Secretary Finance, Mohammad Iqbal Khandey, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, B. B. Vyas, Principal Secretary Housing, Suresh Kumar, Principal Secretary PDD, Sudhanshu Pandey, Principal Secretary to Governor, R. K. Goel, Commissioner Secretary Health, G. A. Peer, Commissioner Secretary Tourism, Atal Duloo, Commissioner Secretary Forests, Shant Manu and various other senior officers were present in the meeting.

            Laying stress on timeline completion of schemes, the Chief Minister said that the government is keen to ensure balanced and comprehensive development of Katra as a modern pilgrim town. He asked the concerned departments and KDA to put in coordinated efforts in carrying forward the development projects smoothly.

            The meeting discussed issues pertaining to the construction of a modern bus stand at Katra on PPP mode for which a PowerPoint presentation was made in the meeting.

            Matters pertaining to the revision of Katra Master Plan, organizational and office infrastructure for KDA, enforcement wing for the Authority and provision of seed money were also discussed in the meeting.

            It was stated that Rs. 13.65 crores water supply scheme to lift water from Pai Nallah to Bhawan is under progress and is likely to be completed by April 2012. The tendering process for water supply scheme Dhansar for Katra town estimated to cost Rs. 47.42 crores has started.

            The meeting was told Ban-Ganga protection works estimated to cost Rs. 11.39 crores have been taken up for execution and are likely to be completed by March this year. The second phase of the Bhim Ghar Fort renovation has been formulated and approved by the Tourism Department.

            It was stated that the upgradation work of Katra-Ban Ganga road is on and till date Rs. 3.40 crore have been spent on it. The project is estimated to cost Rs. 4.67 crores.

            The Chief Minister also received brief about the construction of link road connecting railway station to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Tikri-Katra road, Sarpatian to Devi Pendian road, construction of 164 meter span bridge over Jajjar river and other development works under execution in the town.
