He said that Civil Defence and Home Guard Organizations have assumed great importance in the present global scenario. They have been playing an excellent role in the aftermath of natural and man-made calamities, he added.
Khoda was speaking at a function organized on the Raising Day of Civil Defence and Home Guard Organizations at Home-guards and Civil Defence Headquarters here today. He said that the organizations are wholeheartedly committed to the noble task of selfless service to the community, adding that the volunteers of the organizations have provided excellent service to the people shoulder to shoulder with the police on different occasion including Amar Nath Ji Yatra, Haj-2010, and other local festivals. He hoped that they will continue to contribute in assisting the during tough times in future.
The DGP Khoda stressed on involving more and more people in the activities of Civil Defence by strengthening the training infrastructure and enhancing the capacity to deal with man-made and natural disasters. He said that organizations have brought awareness among the masses during past several years but there is still need to do much more in this regard. They are upholding the highest tradition of voluntary service, he added.
Responding to the demands of Home Guards and Civil Defence Organizations, the DGP said that these are under active consideration of the government. He said that every support will be provided to strengthen the organizations. He said that enhancement of present honorarium to the volunteers has been recommended and hoped positive action in the matter.
On this occasion, the parade and mock drill was presented by the contingents of Home-guard, Auxiliary Police and Civil Defence wardens and volunteers. The function was witnessed by a large number of people from all walks of life.
Earlier, the Additional Director General of Police, Home Guards/Civil Defence, S. Gopal Reddy, read out the Raising Day Messages of Her Excellency the President of India, Prime of India, Union Home Minister, His Excellency the Governor, Chief Minister, Home Secretary and the DGP on the occasion. He gave a detailed resume of the activities of the organizations conducted at district headquarters, towns, tehsils and block level during the year. He said that a large number of people participated in these programmes and training camps and were made aware about the precautionary measures to be taken during disasters.
Among others, the function was attended by former DGP A. C. Chatervedi, ADsG, K. Rajendra Kumar, Ram Lubaya, IsGP, Smt. D. R. Doley, Naveen Aggerwal, Dilbag Singh, Raja Aijaz Ali, Sheikh Owais Ahmed, A. K. Gupta, Ravinder Kotwal, M. A. Anjum and H. K. Lohia, senior retired police officers, Chief Warden, Jugal Mahajan, Warden prominent citizens and civil defence volunteers.
