Salsbury Steak is a quick and easy way to turn plain ground beef or hamburger meat into a deliciously tasty entree’ that can be served with mashed potatoes, or french fries, or even a Linguini Pasta. It can also be served by itself or as an open-faced sandwich.

To make Salsbury Steak here is what you’ll need and how to make it.

Ingredients:1-1/2 Pounds lean Ground Beef

1 Small Onion (diced)

3 Cups Cremini or, White Mushrooms

1 Teaspoon Thyme

1 Teaspoon Sweet Basil

1 Egg

2 Tablespoons All purpose Flour

1/2 Tablespoon Onion Powder

1/2 Tablespoon Garlic Powder

1 Cup Beef Stock

2 Tablespoons Olive Oil

1/2 Tablespoon each Salt and Pepper, or to taste

Instructions:The forming of the patties can be done to cook immediately, or, they can be prepared and refrigerated over night to allow for the flavors to blend together.

In a large mixing bowl combine your Ground Beef, Egg, Thyme, Sweet Basil, Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, salt and pepper and 1 tablespoon of your flour. Fold and knead this mixture together for 1 to 2 minutes to incorporate all of the flavors into the meat.

Form your ground beef into 8 1/2 thick oval shaped patties, with the remaining flour sprinkle the flour onto both sides of the patties, and if desired refrigerate over night.

Cooking:

In a large skillet on medium heat put in the Olive Oil, Onion, and mushrooms and lightly saute’ these, once partially sauteed’ remove them into a small dish or bowl temporarily.

Lay the patties into the oil and start to saute’ them and add in the onion and mushrooms with the meat. Cook one side for about 10 minutes before flipping the patties over.

Once you have flipped the patties cook again for about 10 minutes, then temporarily remove the patties from the pan.

Add in the Beef Stock into the pan and bring it to a boil. If a thicker sauce is required simply spoon in a tablespoon of all purpose flour and briskly whisk it into the sauce, then return the patties into the pan and reduce the heat.

Coat the patties with the gravy sauce allowing the patties to rewarm in the gravy.

Re-season with some salt and pepper to taste.

Serve Hot as desired.
