On Sunday, Milton Jimenez was arrested after being caught with drink-driving. He made a press conference and accused the police of using excessive force against him which included punches.
In a statement by the security minister, he denied that punches had been exchanged. He also said that Milton Jimenez was made to calm down due to refusing to take the blood-alcohol test.
“I made the mistake of driving while drunk,” Mr. Jimenez said at Thursday’s news conference. He had a black eye and bruises. At the news conference, Mr. Jimenez announced that he would resign fro his position.
He was a close aid to Manuel Zelaya, the president of Honduras. He is the latest of numerous cabinet members to resign when Mr. Zelaya took the office as president on January 2006.
