In order for an individual to be charged with a crime, there has to be some basis of evidence to support the accusation. This concept which has existed in courtrooms for hundreds of years has apparently been lost to the Italian judicial system.
Ever since this nightmare for Raffaele Sollecito started back on 2 November 2007, there has been absolutely no evidence to tie him to this heinous crime of murder which he has been so unjustly accused. The only reason Raffaele was convicted was because he was the alibi for his codefendant, who is also innocent. However, in the mind of the Italian prosecutors, detectives and other law enforcement officials, the fact that Raffaele declared that he was at home with his codefendant would take the place of evidence.
On 25 March of this year, the Court of Cassation in Rome, Italy may decide to send Raffaele’s case to a lower court. In that case, in order for Raffaele to finally see justice and be declared innocent, he must be granted the opportunity to have his own trial. Upon receiving this opportunity, he will have no ties to his codefendant, and the court will have no choice but to declare him completely innocent of this heinous crime which he is incapable of having committed. No evidence against Raffaele has ever existed; therefore, all charges brought against him have no basis whatsoever.
It has been reiterated time and time again that if Raffaele is given this opportunity, the prosecution will not have a leg to stand on. If everything else is taken out of the equation and focused only on Raffaele, there is no case.
At the time Raffaele was accused, he was preparing to work on earning his Master’s degree in computer engineering. If a person is goal-oriented, as Raffaele was and always has been, the chances of that individual deviating from his path and preventing himself from achieving his goal are slim to none. This ties into the impossibility that Raffaele would even consider for a second committing this crime. It is not in him because of the person that he is as a man and with the values that he was raised to uphold.
We must all wake up to the fact that when Meredith Kercher’s life was so cruelly snatched from her, Raffaele was at home. He has never made any statements to contradict this. No evidence has ever been found to prove otherwise. The prosecution would like it to be believed that evidence against Raffaele exists. However, upon closer examination, anyone can clearly see that the bra clasp was contaminated and that absolutely no trace of Raffaele’s DNA was found on it. The bloody footprint in the bathroom bears no resemblance to Raffaele’s feet at all. This evidence created by the prosecution has only demonstrated one thing, and that is the lack of professionalism exercised by the forensic specialists while collecting evidence. Their desperation led them to frame an innocent man for murder.
If the decision on 25 March is to send Raffaele’s case to a lower court, the only fair and just thing to do would be to grant him his own trial. By doing this, it will clearly be seen unequivocally that no evidence has ever existed, no witnesses have ever come forward, and at the time of Meredith Kercher’s murder, Raffaele was in his apartment. Granting Raffaele his trial will once and for all give him the justice he deserves. It will bring this medieval witch hunt for a man who has done absolutely nothing wrong to an end.
The only thing that Raffaele Sollecito has ever done was to be an alibi witness for his codefendant who is also innocent. The last time I checked, this was not against the law. Raffaele should not be punished and forced to justify things that have nothing to do with him. Raffaele had nothing to do with this crime by granting him his own trial that fact will clearly be put on display.
