I received the following email from SIGAR (Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction) regarding Salang Hospital in Afghanistan. A project funded by U.S taxpayers to the tune of over $600 hundred grand – that’s your money America!
Warning the following information is very disturbing:
Classification: UNCLASSIFIED
Hello Robert Tilford,
Today, SIGAR released an inspection of the nearly $600,000 Salang Hospital in Afghanistan.
The report found:
–Hospital staff wash newborn infants with untreated river water because there is no clean water.
–Lack of electricity, water, furniture, and equipment deprives patients of the full range of medical care.
–Hospital has enough electricity for only three light bulbs.
–Water well, solar power, and generator required in contract were not provided.
–Contractor paid in full, even though deficiencies meant facility provided inadequate access to healthcare.
–Hospital in one of Afghanistan’s most active seismic zones, at high risk of collapse due to unreinforced brick walls, multiple construction defects.
