Srinagar,March 28 (Scoop News) – Directorate of Census Operations J&K today released the statistic data of Census 2011 regarding housing and household amenities at Press Conference held here today.
The Director Census Operations, Chander Shakher Sapru revealed that there have been an increase of 30 percent in housing with total number of 36,03,632 structures. Out of which 31,843 are housing schools/colleges etc. while 7,473 are used as hotels, lodges and guesthouses.
The presentation revealed that drinking water facility is available to 20,15,088 households which amounts to 63.9 percent while 11 percent households use well water, 33.5 percent use ground water through hand pumps, 8.5 percent get water through tube wells, 0.5 percent from springs, 0.6 percent from rivers, canals, 0.8 percent from tankers, ponds, lakes and 1.5 percent from other means.
The Census data also revealed that 85.14 percent households are electrified, 9.69 percent use kerosene for lighting their houses while solar light is used only by 20,813 households while 1.95 percent households have no light.
The Census data also revealed that latrine facility within the premises is available to 10,31,297 households out of 20,15,088 while 9,83,791 households have neither public nor other latrine facilities available. Similarly 2,53,349 households have closed drainage for waste water while 7,10,735 have open drains and 10,51,004 have no drainage facilities.
The 6,35,867 households out f 20,15,088 use LPG for cooking, 11,87,122 use firewood, 84,509 use cow dung cake, while only 6,956 households use electricity.
Out of 20,15,088 households, 10,28,155 households have Television, Computer/Laptops with Internet facility available, 1,40,000,207 have Telephone and 11,94,854 have Mobile facilities in the State.
In an interactive session with media persons, the Director, Census Operations discussed various aspects of the Census data 2011.
The Joint Director Information, Kashmir, Itrat Hussain Rafiquee and Deputy Director Information, G.R. Gilkar were also present on the occasion, besides a galaxy of press and media persons.
