Of all the different forms of color printing a company can choose from, postcards are and probably always will be one of the simplest, and most effective means of getting your message out to the public.
Why are postcards so effective? Think for a moment about all the postcards you have probably gotten in the mail over the years. Now consider how many different letters in envelopes you’ve received from companies in the mail. How often did you actually open those envelopes, and how often were they thrown right in the trash?
I know I’m much more likely to toss them in the trash because I don’t have any reason to give them the time needed to find out what they have to say. A postcard, on the other hand, delivers its message right away. As soon as you pick that postcard up you know what it is trying to tell you because there is no envelope blocking your view of it.
Plus, your postcard printing project must have an eye-catching design if it wants to have any kind of success. This helps a postcard to stand out from the rest of the mail pile and certainly stand out among all the envelopes you are likely to get.
Even if your intent is merely to throw the postcard away at first, you have to look at it in order to know what it is, and a well-done postcard is going to tell a person all they need to know in those few seconds.
I have mentioned some things that a postcard can do if it is handled right, so the next question becomes, what exactly are you supposed to do in order to handle it right?
There are two important details to know about postcards in order to have them accomplish the desired results. The first is that when you are making them, you need to remember to emphasize the color in color printing. These need to stand out in the mail pile if you want to have any success at being seen.
If you send someone a black and white, dull looking image they aren’t going to give it any more attention than they would the plain envelopes, so be sure to have bright colors and a well defined look that screams to be seen.
And secondly, be sure that your message is succinct. As I said earlier, you need to grab a person in a matter of seconds, and if you have a long, hard to understand message you won’t have much success. If you’re having an upcoming sale, put Big Sale in a place you know they’ll see. You can have more details, but the most prominent words need to be the primary message and reason you’re sending out postcards to begin with.
If you know what a postcard needs to look like to do its job, you’ll have no problems getting your postcards held just long enough for them to send their message.
