How to Restore Exchange 2007 Backup File?

NTBackup utility of Windows XP is recommended to backup Exchange Server data by experts but many times users do not know how to restore Exchange bkf data in a proper way. Step-wise Procedure to Restore Exchange Backup:

Before performing the actual restore go through below mentioned steps and follow it to prepare the server for restore;

Exchange Management Console for Restore:

  1. Open Exchange Management Console and click on Toolbox.
  2. Now select Database Recovery Management under Disaster Recover Tools.
  3. Click Open Tool in right column which comes under Actions.
  4. Let the update by Exchange complete and click “Go to welcome screen” link.
  5. Check Server name and Domain controller are listed and type a label for procedure.
  6. Here select “Create a recovery storage group” task which comes under Manage Recover Storage Group option.
  7. Select storage group holding mailbox to be restored and then click “Next”.
  8. Enter Recovery storage group name.
  9. In case you want to redirect the recovery paths, click on Browse and provide alternate location.
  10. 10.  Now hit the “Create the recovery storage group” link.

Exchange Mailbox Recovery Procedure:

Above mentioned steps were to specify folder paths and creation of a recovery storage group on server. Now you can restore the .bkf file;

  1. Go to the Start menu on Exchange Server and here select NTBackup:
  2. Go to Restore and Manage Media tab.
  3. Select the latest created backup expand it and select first storage group.
  4. Select the items you need to restore and start restore button.

Not For Corrupted Exchange Backup Files
