HR Group urges India, Pakistan to maintain ceasefire agreement in Kashmir

Muzaffarabad:
03 September 2011

Press
for Peace (PFP) – organization  which
strives for human rights and peace , has urged India and Pakistan to
maintain the sanctity of ceasefire agreement which was signed between them about
eight years ago.

The
PFP has condemned the incident of cross border firing in the Dhudnial sector of
the Line of Control (LoC) in Azad Kashmir. A press release issued here today
said that three Pakistani and an Indian soldier were killed in an incident of
firing between the troops deployed along the LoC a day earlier. Both the armies
had blamed each other for violating the ceasefire agreement signed in 2003.

The
Pakistan Army had confirmed the killing
of three Pakistani troopers; however, the Indian side alleged that they had
noted a heightened militant activity in the Keran Sector during the last two
days.

Though,
both countries had agreed a ceasefire on the fragile Line of Control in 2003,
there has been reports of border skirmishes between their armies in the
previous years.

Press
for Peace has asked India and Pakistan to observe the sanctity of the ceasefire
agreement.

The
press release issued by the organisation said that there have been attempts of
disturbing peace in the region since last many months and it was observed that
the presence of the banned militant organisations was escalating in the guise
of aid activity.

The
statement said that civilian population living across the LoC has paid heavy
price for conflict, therefore, they need sustainable peace.

Press for Peace had first observed in 2008
that suspicious actions were ongoing in the area in guise of humanitarian
activities. The PFP had launched an awareness campaign to highlight the
miseries of local people following the tense situation along the LoC.
