Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, a former GOP hopeful, was delivering a speech at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club in Tokyo, Japan. He had weighed in on Senator Barack Obama of Illinois clinching the Democratic nomination. Huckabee had a lot of praise for Obama and said that it was a massive achievement.
So far, it has been obvious that race has been used again Obama. But, the GOP has much ammo to use against Obama. Huckabee had said that the GOP needs to focus on Obama’s policies and not his ethnicity.
While Huckabee hopes presumed GOP nominee Senator John McCain defeats Obama this November, he had given this warning to the GOP. He said that it would be politically suicidal to demonize Obama.
“Republicans will make a fundamental if not fatal mistake if they seek to win the election by demonizing Barack Obama,” Huckabee said to reporters. He gave compliments to the country for looking past Obama’s skin color.
Then he would add when the country is in pain, they looked past Obama’s ethnicity. While he is supporting McCain, Huckabee says that the GOP needs to focus more on Obama’s stances on issues.
Several weeks ago, Huckabee said he would like to be McCain’s running-mate. He had this interesting thing to say. When asked if he might be VP running mate, Huckabee said that it was too early to talk about it.
“You can’t accept an invitation to the prom until the football captain asks you. So I’m not going to go out and buy the outfit just yet,” Huckabee said. In a sense, he compared himself to the football captain’s prom date.
On a personal note, that is a pretty funny analogy. But, I really do not want to picture Mike Huckabee wearing a prom dress. And no pictures of a hypothetical prom pairing between McCain and Huckabee either!
