Human Rights Group Blames Government Forces and Rebels For Casualties In Mogadishu

On a Sunday report by the Elman Human Rights Group that is based in Mogadishu, Somalia, it says that at least 81 people were reported to be dead as a result of the fighting between the government troops backed by Ethiopia and the Islamic militants. The human rights group placed blame on both sides for casualties.

The rebels have been accused of using the civilians as human shields. The Ethiopian forces have been accused of shelling the residential neighborhoods. In short, both sides have been blamed for the heavy casualties and the number of wounded.

We are condemning the warring sides in the strongest terms for violating human rights and committing war crimes against civilians,” said Sudan Ali Ahmed, who heads the Elman Human Rights Group.

For over ten years, there has been no functioning central government in Somalia. Ethiopia came in during December of 2006 to place the transitional government that is supported by the United Nations. However, the transitional government has not been effective as there is still warring in Somalia.

The transitional government is still awaiting forces from the African Union. In a nutshell, the warring in Somalia continues with the casualty count climbing.

As an additional result, it has given rise to pirate attacks on ships that cruise through the coast of Somalia.

The continued warring in Somalia will continue to produce one problem after another that will affect the world let alone African and let alone Somalia.
