CHITRAL: A free medical camp was held at Birir village of Kalash valley for treatment of cholera victims of the area where 6 people were died and 25 affected by cholera epidemic and gastro. Dr. Saleema Hassan Gynecologist who is also member board of Director of legal Awareness program for human rights and other health team examined and checked up patients from both communities Muslims and Kalash (non Muslim). Free medical camp was visited mostly by children and female patients who can not approach to Chitral hospital from that remote and non accessible valley. Free medical camp was arranged by Legal awareness Program for Human rights (LAPH) a project of Easy & Equitable Access to Justice program for women funded by Trocaire an Irish based NGO. Health teams to approach this valley were logistically supported by AKRSP. Medical camp was held at civil dispensary of Birir valley to examine and treat cholera victims of the valley. Some 45 patients including women, and children were examined in the camp who were also given free medicines and injected them drips and other vaccine etc. it is worth to mention here that some 6 people had died by cholera outbreak in Birir village of Kalash valley and more than 25 were affected by the disease. As the valley is situated in a remote area surrounding by high mountains and not accessible so people of the area were facing great problems besides it there is no hospital except a simple dispensary.
Main reason of out breaking of cholera epidemic is using of contaminated water for drinking purposes in the valley.
Elites of the area requested LAPH for conducting a free medical camp and they arranged it for healing patients of the area on their request. Social and political circle of the area highly appreciated this step of human rights who really serve the needy and deserving people.
