Hyderabad (Shamshabad) international airport will be inaugurated on March 14

The widening of 54-km Inner Ring Road (IRR) which provides connectivity to the international airport at Shamshabad from the city will take a little more than a month to be completed.  Though the international airport will be inaugurated on March 14 and commercial operations will start on March 16, the entire stretch of IRR is expected to be ready by May 1. Rs 150 crore is being spend by the GHMC, R&B and Huda on this project.

Officials are busy finishing works like shifting of electric poles, transformers, storm water and drainage lines, felling of trees and laying road, as and when the right of way is ready after demolition of properties even if it for 100-metre stretch. The GHMC officials took media persons all along the IRR on Sunday. Works are in full swing with hundreds of labourers razing down the structures for widening of road. GHMC has made required payment to all agencies for shifting of utilities including tree felling.

The GHMC additional commissioner (planning), Mr K. Dhanunjaya Reddy, said widening of IRR includes laying of roads, re-alignment of dividers, improvement of junctions, shifting of utilities, extension of vents of railway bridges, and culverts besides construction of parallel bridges at places like Nagole. At the sam time, citizens of Secunderabad, Tarnaka and Habsiguda will be able to cut 8-km from their trip to the Shamshabad airport as the Srisailam highway via Barkas from Chandrayaangutta is being widened. People in Secunderabad can go to the airport by this road instead of going towards Aramgarh from Chandryangutta.  The distance from Chandrayangutta junction to the airport is nearly 18 kilometre but it is only 9.8-km from Chandrayangutta via Barkas.
