"How bizarre and a bit of an over reaction, poor woman."
Girlie, Essex UK
Yes, beating someone is "a bit of an over reaction". Dick
"Opps! A bit of a faux pas, but the poor woman was obviously just trying to reference the culture of the country she was teaching in."
Victoria, Leicester
Whoopsie, but it’s okay! Dick x 2
"What Gillian Gibbons did is risky in the UK let alone in Sudan."
Paul, Birmingham
Yes, because capital punishment is enforced in Britain. No, wait…
"Oh please she should have known better, we wouldn’t even get away with that in the UK."
Sid, Gateshead
Sympathy! I bet you’re one of these dicks who wax lyrical about the plight of soldiers in Iraq and turns a blind eye to the origins of the rubble that surrounds them.
"I bet she feels a little foolish now. The lashes that we see on TV really don’t look that brutal. I’m sure it won’t hurt anymore than the cane or slipper. However, it must be humiliating for a 54-year-old woman to be punished in that way though."
Anon, Fife
You’ve missed the point. Yes, it is humiliating, but it is also immoral, inhumane, short-sighted and above all sickly. So i guess somewhere in there it is humiliating, but it’s hardly slipping on a banana skin. She shouldn’t be beaten at all and, in fact, we should beat you.
