Jammu/Srinagar, January 13 (Scoop News) –Continuing with its support to the beleaguered population of Kashmir, IAF carried out yet another relief operation in areas isolated by the ‘Snow Tsunami’ in Kashmir Valley.
According to officials that on Thursday and Friday, an IAF Mi 17 IV helicopter inserted the desperately required ration and relief material in isolated villages of Gulabgarh and Dandiyal.
The District Administration of Reasi District had requisitioned IAFs help to reach out to its villages ‘marooned’ by the deluge of snow. The difficult terrain and the altitude of 8000 ft made it difficult to sustain the population in the villages on the verge of starvation.
Appropriately responding to the distress call, the IAF base at Jammu launched a MI 17 IV helicopter from the 130 Helicopter Unit. Wg Cdr Saksena and Flt Lt Thomas assessed the situation and helped the district administration plan and insert the desperately needed ration supplies. The unit has also been at forefront in restoring the power supply to the Kashmir valley. The Power Grid material and engineers were inserted in the far flung helipads to ensure timely response to a crisis situation. IAF sources have indicated that the resources of helicopters and transport planes are available to assist the state administration in the disaster management.
