ICC criticises India’s cricketing legend Sunil Gavaskar for raking up the umpiring controversy against the umpire Steve Bucknor.ICC offcials feel that Sunil Gavaskar, being an office-bearer of ICC i.e the chairman of ICC technical committee has flared up the umpiring controversy against Steve Bucknor, during the controvercial Sydney Cricket Test.Taking cue from him the BCCI launched its strong protests against both the umpires who officiated during the second cricket test at Sydney,in the result of which ICC was forced to sack Steve Bucknor from officiating in the third cricket test at Perth.
ICC may be right in its point of view. But Sunil Gavaskar as a witness to the proceedings of the melodrama at SCG rightly expressed his views on the umpiring blunders especially against Steve Bucknor. What he expressed as his free views was only as an expert commentator and supported by electronic media, replays etc.Had he kept mum without airing his honest views against the blunders of Steve Bucknor, India would have doubted his national integrity and real sportsmanship.First of all Sunil Gavaskar was a sportsman and a true critic of the game of cricket and above all an Indian. Therefore what he did was right and it was truly in the interest of the game of cricket.
ICC while criticising Gavaskar has failed to note down the vehement criticism of the Australian players, their behaviour etc during the Sydney test especially Ponting and Co and about their outrageous ‘rabid nationalism’ as well,by the Australian press.
