Previously Australia has won the toss and chose to field. Pakistan loss their opening wicket Ahmed Shehzad in the 2nd over and they lost Hafeez at 25 for 2. Though Kamran fell for 31, Umar proceeded, cranking up to top gear in the death overs. He was in such a mood that Afridi was relegated to play second fiddle. Umar Akmal played an excellent inning and he scored 94 in 54 balls. Finally Pakistan reached the huge target 191/5.
The match swung like a pendulum until Pakistan came back strongly to win it. Australia started off poorly as they lost Warner and Watson in the first over. Maxwell and Finch seemed to be playing on a different pitch as they carved the bowling to all parts of the ground. They added 118-runs for the third wicket. Maxwell in particular seemed to be in a hurry as he got his fifty off just 18 balls. He looked well on course for a hundred before throwing it away. Finch carried on even though he kept losing partners at the end. He too got to his fifty but in the end there was too much to do for him.
Pakistan bowlers did not start off well. Only Babar kept things quiet but when it was required the rest of them contributed. Afridi and Gul did superbly, Ajmal used his variations to good effect as he gave away only 1 run off the 18th over. Bhatti held his nerve in the last over and won the match for his team. With this win Pakistan keep their hopes alive in this tournament.
