An investigation launched by Rwanda’s parliament have found cases where students at some schools were made to wear different uniforms in accordance to their respective ethnic groups along with reading books inciting hatred for one another.
However, the education minister Jeanne d’Arc Majawamariya said those who are responsible have been punished. However, Mujawamariya could be sacked by the MPs for this incident.
During the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, at least 800,000 Tutsis along with moderate Hutus were slaughtered in 100 days.
Also questioned was Joseph Murekeraho, the Minister for Primary and Secondary Education.
According to Ms. Mujawamariya, the teachers responsible were found guilty of inciting ethnic hatred and then sacked from their jobs. However, the MPs say that she has given inadequate answers to their questions. She has been summoned before a commission for a third time.
A report by the parliament last month said that old books found in the libraries had distorted history.
Hutu extremists responsible for the genocide said that the Tutsis had come from Ethiopia to Rwanda. There were also poems discovered that promoted hatred and division between the two.
