This is the second report that i’m posting on the same subject today. But after having watched the news channels, one after the other starting to talk to Sunitha Narain about her protests against the launch of the car, i couldn’t help but scoff at how these so called NGOs, Environmentalists, etc are either under informed or just plain dumb to be protesting against the car’s launch. I may be quoting some of the people on the news channels that i watched today, but there’re some questions that these NGOs probably need to put to the government of the country rather than the private sector companies whose sole aim is business, and hence, asking them to not release a car thinking about the roads and the environment is really dumb. Though, i spoke about the negative impact of this car in the previous post, i didnt ask the company not to release the car like some NGOs. Anyways, the point is that, at this juncture, when the country is at the brink of a revolution, a revolution which brings the car closer to the common man, i think its time that our netas sit up and take notice of the conditions into which these cars will be released. But at the same time, the NGOs harking against the release of the car is totally unjustified… where were these NGOs when there’re hundreds of thousands of Taxis, Buses, Autos and old cars spewing tons of smoke into the air?? Aren’t they the same ones who travel by these vehicles? Shouldnt the be protesting about running such vehicles on the road? Shouldn’t they be protesting about the pathetic road conditions in the country?? shouldnt they be protesting about the pathetic public transport system that dogs some of the cities in our country? Isn’t this public transport system reponsible fo rthe pathetic traffic and hence the pollution? There was a point raised by R.K.Pachauri which i believe was a very valid one… he said "there should be a transport policy taken out by the government", now this is a solution. These NGO and their protesting business has become kind of a joke… they rake up issues which are totally irrelevant to the cause; there hardly seems to be any root cause analysis. This kind of a protest sometimes, or many times lead people to believe that tehse NGOs and their protest are normally politically motivated or rather held just at the whims and fancies of certain individuals and not in the general interest of the people.
