Apparently, there is still fallout coming out from the religious side of the political spectrum after Democratic nominee Senator Barack Obama of Illinois became the United States President-elect on November 4. Apparently, Reverend Jay Scott Newman of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville, South Carolina, does not look too pleased with the results of the elections.
So far, Newman is against Obama mainly because of the stance of abortion. This is Newman’s main thing against Obama. Newman has said that his parishioners need to do penance first before taking Holy Communion. So far, Newman explains that he can legally refuse the sacrament to parishioners.
“We cannot leave our faith outside the voting booth,” Newman said.
So far, Newman has made it clear: his parishioners need to do penance before accepting the Holy Communion. This could be an omen for another challenge that Obama must face once he takes the oath of office come January of 2009.
