IISM ski graduate course concludes in Gulmarg

Srinagar, March 03, (Scoop News)- The ski graduate course of Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM) concluded in Gulmarg on Tuesday despite scarcity of snow. There were more than 100 students in this course from various parts of the country. It included 20 students from Govt. Medical Collage Srinagar.
Mohd Sultan Kaboo, Zonal Head North Kashmir of J&K Bank was the Chief Guest.

Principal IISM J S Dhillon welcomed the guests and briefed them about the various activities being undertaken by the Institute. He said that youth of the country especially in Kashmir Valley in facing tough times due to turmoil and lack of employment opportunities. Many of them are becoming an easy prey to drug addiction. In such situations IISM plays a very crucial role by engaging them in adventure training. Its courses not only develop personality of our youth but developed those skills which leads to meaning employment in the adventure tourism. After completing the course many of our students have become Instructors/ Guides and even opened their own business. He said skiing courses are very expensive but IISM given huge subsidy to the students so that all sections of the society could afford such courses. Students who do well in such courses can also pursue ski as a sports and compete in the State/National Championship. He said J&K bank can play a vital role by sponsoring promising ski athletes who have potential to get medals at International events there by discharging its big corporate social responsibility.

Mohd Sultan Kaboo, Zonal Head J&K Bank, North Kashmir gave away the prizes to the outstanding students of the course. He said all trainees were lucky to get this type of exposure which has enhanced their personality and developed confidence in them to face any challenge of life. He told that J&K Bank is pioneer to discharge its corporate social responsibility by helping such sports and its athletes to enhance their performance at the National and International levels. He said such courses area alive example of diverse cultural integration of our youth from different parts of the country. He said J&K Bank will always be ready to promote winter sports and adventure tourism in the state through such initiatives of the Institute. He said that Mr. Dhillon is also President of Winter Games Federation of India (WGFI)who can help the sate by organizing various national events in Gulmarg.
