Imbibe Vivekananda’s values to promote harmony: Shabir
A large number of people including the prominent citizens and social activists drawn from different parts of Jammu city besides senior officers of Health Department attended the function.
Minister of State for Health, Shabir Ahmad Khan was the chief guest and Member Legislative Assembly, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta was guest of honour on the occasion.
The Minister also inaugurated the newly established modernized laboratory of the hospital. He also launched the web site of the Hospital on the occasion.
The Minister and other dignitaries present on the occasion paid floral tribute to Swami Ji and threw light on the teachings.
Amar Chand Gupta, Senior Member Managing Committee member welcomed the guests and gave a brief account of the activities of the Hospital, its Mission while Atma Sarup Gupta general secretary presented the annual report and threw light on the role of the Hospital.
Highlighting the main teachings of Swami Vivekananda Ji, the Minister said that it was high time that the ideals and teachings of Vivekananda are followed in letter and spirit by one and all. He said the legacy of Swami Vivekananda is relevant to India at a time when the society is redefining itself to become more just and equitable as the old order makes way for the new. He also called for fresh assimilation of the progressive and harmonious ideals preached by the 20th century Bengali visionary for a more “egalitarian society with equal opportunities” for all. He said that the great saint enlightened the whole world with his high values and spirituality. He asked youth to follow the foot prints of the Swami.
The Minister said “Swamiji’s teachings were in consonance with the Vedanta.” “He brought out the divinity lying dormant in man. Swami Vivekananda had said ‘I call God whom common man calls human beings by mistake.’ Being the superior creation of God, he believed that human beings and the state of their existence cannot be ignored,” the Health Minister said. “Religion should be a weapon for self-transformation as well as transformation of the society.” “His guru Ramakrishna Paramhans had taught him that service to man was service to god. Swamiji made this principle the basis of his social programme,” Shabir said.
Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, who was chief guest on the occasion, highlighted achievements of the hospital and future expansion plans. The other members of the hospital management also threw light on various aspects of life of Swami Vivekananda, his sayings and actions.
Earlier, the Minister made a round of the hospital. He took stock of the functioning of the hospital, met the patients and enquired about their welfare. He appreciated the yeomen’s services of the hospital management. He assured them that government would provide possible financial assistance to the institution as grant in aid.
On the occasion, students also took pledge to follow teachings of Vivekananda and motivate others for the same.(Scoop News)
