Voicing strongly against the discrimination met to the tribal communities in jobs, promotions and other overall developmental schemes, the Gujjars of state today urged the State Government to implement the STs reservation in recruitments, promotions and other developmental schemes & plans. In the executive body meeting of Jammu Kashmir Tribal United Forum (TUF), an organisation working for the affairs of JK Gujjars, held here today under the chairmanship of Roshan Din Choudhary, President of forum, the leaders of forum have appealed the State Govt. to pay special attention to the plights of Gujjars communities in State.
Giving detail of various demands of Gujjars of State, Roshan Din Choudhary said that despite they (Gujjar & Bakerwal) constitute more than 80% of tribal population and are third largest populated communities of total population of the State, still they are significantly underrepresented in each and every field. He further alleged a loss of about 27500 posts to Scheduled Tribes in direct recruitment against275000 adhoc, contractual and stop gap appointments done by the Govt.
Speaking on the occasion, Zabeer Ahmed Bajjar, general secretary of Tribal United Forum (TUF) said that Gujjar & Bakerwal of J&K State were declared Scheduled Tribe in 1991 and though the State Govt. had too enacted Reservation in 2005 but unfortunately the implementation of various provisions for the safeguard of the tribal interests and development is still lacking and which has now become a dream for them. Demanding in to to implementation of STs reservation in recruitment/promotion and other developmental schemes, Bajjar said that under the circumstances where the Govt. has launched fast track recruitment in various modes like contractual, temporary or permanent, the Gujjar & Bakerwal are the worst sufferers of this, thus are in urgent need of a serious attention from Govt.
It was further said that the dearth of adequate infrastructures education, civic and healthcare in the tribal areas have too posed a serious threat to the very survival of these communities and may part them from mainstream society.
Prominent among others who spoke on the occasion were Shah Mohd, Tanwir Ahmed, Khursheed-Ul-Islam, Jameel Ahmed, Adv. Pervaiz Choudhary and Adv. Tanzir Khatana.
