Improving GroundReport’s Comment Module: Clarification

The recent post "Glock 19 Kills Again" generated a large number of comments.  The presentation of these comments highlighted a need to upgrade the Comment software on GroundReport.

GroundReport uses Facebook’s comment module, a decision made to fight comment spam and hate language that has worked out very positively for the most part.

However, we realized that when Articles fit into two categories, and are simultaneously published on two separate URLs, while we have unified the editing and view counts for these two entries, comments are not consistent on both pages.  Basically, this means that if you reach an article through one link your comment only appears there, and not on the other page.  This has justifiably created confusion among our community, as users felt their comments were disappearing or being censored.

We apologize for this inconvenience and would like to reassure our vibrant community that GroundReport administrators are not censoring any Comments. And reporters do not have the ability to censor individual comments on their articles.

Regardless, if you still have concerns about comments, please contact us.

Lastly, in light of this development, we are hoping to upgrade our comment module with a new system in the coming weeks.

GroundReport has expanded its development team and we look forward to bringing you significant improvements in the coming months.
