A Kohat police constable is dead and two others are injured after unknown gunmen opened fire on police mobile van on Sunday in Pakistan. The area has been increasingly plagued by violence from Al Queda operatives in the area.
According to a press release issued by PRO Kohat police, Sunday night Head Constable Khan Muhammad, Constable Shafi ur Rehman and Constable Amal Gul were in a police mobile van on patrolling duty in Jarvanda on a bypass road adjacent to Pakistan Air Force Base Kohat, when two unknown motorcycle riders opened fire on the police van.
Kohat police constable Shafi ur Rehman succumbed to bullet wounds at the scene, while Head Constable Khan Muhammad and constable Amal Gul were injured. The police returned fire but the attackers managed to escape. The injured policemen were admitted immediately to the KDA hospital of Kohat. DPO Abdullah Khan and SHO Lal Farid immediately rushed to the crime scene and ordered a search operation. So far in the case, few suspects were arrested but Kohat police has recovered motorcycle used from the Miangan Colony residential area of Kohat.
In addition, due to heavy rain fall Sunday night, a female resident of Ali Zai village of Kohat was killed when the roof of her residence caved in. Eighty residential buildings in Kohat district of NWFP were also destroyed and two school buildings damaged. According to official sources, the flood in upper Kohat areas of Ali Zai, Khadi Zai, Nasrat Khel, Chikarkote and lower areas of Billitang, Dhoda Sharif, and Togh damaged 80 homes. The flood also destroyed the WAPDA electric supply system, killed animals and destroyed goods.
One buffalo was killed when electrical wires fell upon it in the Nasrat Khel village of Kohat.
