Organic fashion designer Kate Goldwater has achieved a lot for her 23 years. She has a store in the East Village, a signature style that stops strangers in the street, and a steady stream of alternative press.
But she’s not stopping there.
As the 2008 presidential election heated up, Goldwater began designing exclusively around Barack Obama, building a homespun campaign that reflects her organic approach. She now sells recycled fashions emblazoned with a striking Barack Obama icon at her store, AuH20. But to get the word out, she’s taken things a step further, launching local fashion shows in nearby bars.
Leveraging her buoyant personality, loyal friends and resourceful design skill, Kate Goldwater has managed to turn her day job into a force for the Democratic nominee.
The web 2.0 crowd is taking notice. GroundReport CEO Rachel Sterne and NonSociety Co-Founder Meghan Asha took part in the last event, Asha later posting a video on her blog.
Now Goldwater has a chance at meeting Anderson Cooper thanks to her efforts, and iReport Film Festival: Campaign 2008, an election competition sponsored by CNN’s citizen journalism platform.
