In Sri Lanka hospital under attack

Sri Lanka – Colombo: The spokeswoman of the International Committee of the Red Cross Sarasi Wijeratne said, Tuesday a hospital was hit four times by artillery bombs in the fight between Tamil Tigers (LTTE) and government forces in northern Sri Lanka.

The 250,000 civilians trapped in the war zone. A hospital in Puthukkudiyiruppu treats the wounded. Sunday the hospital attacked three times, which kills 9 patients and 20 injuries. On Monday hospital was hit again and three more people were killed and 10 injured.

Before these attacks the hospital is one of the last functioning medical facilities in the battle area where the Tamil Tigers are fighting for their survival.

"People have started to leave the hospital because they don’t feel safe there," said Wijeratne. "Those who are able to move are going away in search of safer places or to find shelter in less exposed locations."
