London, 27 May 2015 – With many enterprises beginning to integrate DevOps into their organisational infrastructure, cloud computing is playing an even bigger part in enabling business agility. Cloud World Forum (24-25 June) is set to address the issue of delivering business value through IT, and will highlight why cloud technology is being embraced for improving operational efficiency in an explosive digital era, where consumers judge services on the flexibility and reliability of their digital offerings.
Enterprises are increasingly introducing a DevOps approach to meet growing demand from the online, digital-savvy consumer who requires high quality applications which can be developed, released and updated as quickly as possible. Businesses that have deployed DevOps notice improved operational performance and boast a faster time to market for applications, lower failure rate and a shorter period of time between fixing maintenance issues. Cloud World Forum, in recognising this shift in approach, will return to London this year and place a spotlight on simplifying the DevOps environment for enterprises looking to integrate the concept to help drive their business operations and enable innovation.
Results of a 2014 study[i] suggest that customer satisfaction is the primary reason behind DevOps adoption for enterprises, but that the UK is lagging far behind the US and Australia in terms of overall adoption so far. Just 40% of UK companies claimed to have implemented DevOps, compared to 66% in the US and 50% in Australia. This year’s Cloud World Forum will help educate C-Level IT decision makers from across the globe on how to make the transition and the event will feature a dedicated DevOps and Containers theatre.
Fin Goulding, Chief Information Officer, Paddy Power, is one of the many speakers at this year’s conference and is set to present on ‘A Transformational Journey: Implementing DevOps & Agile at Scale.’ Ahead of his presentation, Goulding shared his experiences of Cloud and DevOps within the Irish bookmaker’s business:
“I see people working in IT with smiles on their faces now, because we’re removing some of those barriers, those handoffs, those frustrations of being sat behind a hundred tickets or requests for work,” commented Goulding. “These individuals are now sitting next to each other and they’re making things happen. A guy said to me recently that we had a feature come up from the business on Monday, and we delivered it within three days bug-free. It’s because everyone is aligned to making these things an advantage for us in terms of what our organization needs.”
One of the headline sponsors for the event, NTT Communications, recently launched a report, titled Cloud Reality Check 2015, which sets out the relationship between an application’s maturity and its suitability for the cloud and which applications appear best suited to a specific infrastructure.
“Before undertaking the report, we were expecting that certain platforms would emerge as de facto locations for certain kinds of applications,” commented Len Padilla, VP Product Strategy, NTT Communications. “However, a very different picture emerged; there was no clear answer over which apps go where. Quite strikingly, while cloud uptake is increasing, our respondents didn’t feel cloud was living up to its potential and many described managing cloud vendors confusing and challenging.
“At this year’s Cloud World Forum, we’ll be talking about the conclusion from this report. We’re keen to hear how this sentiment resonates with show attendees and will be discussing how ICT and business leaders can overcome these challenges, while offering advice on what real-world cloud strategies should look like. We’ll also be joining a panel discussion alongside British Gas, Skytap and Ordnance Survey on inspiring innovation through collaboration – so lots of exciting activity to look forward to at the event.”
Cloud World Forum will take place at the Olympia Grand in London and the event is now in its seventh year. Co-located with Enterprise AppsWorld, the conference is expected to welcome over 8,000 attendees and over 3,000 VIP enterprise end-users.
