Kargil/Srinagar,August 15 (Scoop News) – Like other parts of the country, Independence Day was also celebrated at Kargil today with patriotism and gaiety. Chief Executive Councilor (CEO), LAHDC Kargil, Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan hoisted the National Flag at the premises of Boys Higher Secondary School Baroo and took salute. As many as 16 contingents of JK Police, NCC, students from various Government and Private Schools and a contingent of Army Band participated in the parade.
Addressing the gathering after unfurling the tricolor, Kacho expressed profound grief and sorrow over the loss of precious human lives in Leh district due to the recent cloudburst.
Highlighting the developmental activities in the District, the CEO said that the construction work on Rs. 40 crore Council Secretariat has been started. He said that the work on the 44 MW Chutak Hydel project is nearing completion and the first unit of the project will get operational by next February. He further said that Rs. 270 crore is being spent on the execution of mini Hydel Power projects and installation of solar Power Plants in the District.
The CEO said that the measures are afoot by the Council and District Administration for providing relief and rehabilitation to the flood affected people of the District. Later, a number of Government employees were awarded for their meritorious and outstanding performance.
On the occasion, a special award from the LAHDC, Kargil was given to the Ex-Deputy Commissioner, Kargil Riyaz Ahmad Sheikh for his outstanding service rendered in Kargil.
Later, two minutes silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the freedom fighters and the people who lost their lives in natural Calamity at Leh.
Likewise, Independence Day was also celebrated at Drass, Zanskar, Sankoo and Chiktan areas of Kargil. Executive Councilor, Works and Power, Ghulam Rasool Naqvi hoisted the national flag at Drass, Executive Councilor, CA&PD, Syed Kazim Saberi at Sankoo, Executive Councilor, Agriculture, Haji Ghulam Amir at Chiktan and Executive Councilor, Tourism and Zanskar Affairs, Punchok Tashi at Zanskar respectively.
