India and Pakistan must work together: Omar

Urging Indian and Pakistani political leadership for creating a congenial atmosphere for better bilateral relationship, Omar Abdullah President National Conference (NC) said that India and Pakistan must work together to remove the air of suspicion and mistrust between the two countries. Omar who was addressing a series of meetings at Pulwama, Rajpora and Shopian said both India and Pakistan are affected by acts of terror and so should develop a joint mechanism to tackle the menace. He said there are elements who want to destabilize India and Pakistan and create turmoil in the sub continent which is not in the interest of both the countries. He urged India and Pakistan to jointly identify and isolate such elements because either country being unstable is not good for the other. Omar said that his party has played a key role in the past for better Indo-Pak relations and shall continue to do so in the future as well in the interest of the two countries and for the welfare of the people of Jammu & Kashmir. He reminded the people about his landmark visit to Pakistan and his one on one meeting with President Musharaff and his subsequent meetings with Dr. Manmohan Singh which helped the two countries come closer. Castigating PDP and Congress for playing divisive politics, Omar said the PDP Congress coalition during their six years of rule played divisive politics and tried to create fissures among the people of the state for petty political gains which could have had dangerous connotations for the integrity and unity of the state.
