India has emerged as the fastest growing market for the internet search engine major Google. The growing Indian market and the revenue is faster than Google overall by a significant margin, as reported by the Google India managing director, Mr.Shailesh Rao.
Google is increasingly driving more and more usage and revenue from outside US. Hence, the company is bullish over the Indian market eventhough the broadband penetration is very low in the country. But considering the vast area of the Indian territory, even with a low penetration of broadband, India has huge number of Internet subscribers.
So as to retain the vast growing market, Google is trying to add local flavour to increase its popularity in the country.
Last week, Google launched You Tube’s India specific site.It features a localized home page and search functions, allowing users to create and share videos, discover the most popular and relevant videos in India.
Last week Google also launched Google Translate- a Translation service for Hindi.The new launch enables automated translation between Hindi and English.However, Google is also facing legal problems in India.You Tube has been sued by an Indian local music company for alleged copyright infringement.
According to Rao, Google has very well established processes, to come to know about some potentially objectionable content and to respond to it quickly.
