The exhibition proved an ideal platform to showcase the achievements of the State in the power sector and the opportunity to attract private sector investment was fully utilized by the concerned departmental officers present at the exhibition. J&K had put up a beautiful stall decked with photos of ongoing projects, new projects, transmission network and renewable energy projects, an audio visual treat.
A conference was held on the concluding day. The State delegation headed by Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, Minister for Science & Technology and IT and comprising Shabir Ahmad Khan, Minister of State for Power, S.M.Desalphine Chairman JKSERC, Basharat Ahmad Dhar Commissioner/Secretary Power, Shaleen Kabra Managing Director JKSPDC & M K Dwivedi, Secretary, Science & Technology participated.
In the keynote address, the Minister for S&T, Aga Syed Ruhullah said that the State was taking vigorous steps to improve the power scenario in the State and the efforts of the Government headed by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah are focussed to transform the State into power surplus. His speech was especially focused on the investment opportunities in the State for private sector.
In his opening address, the Minister of State for Power informed the audience about the power deficit confronting the State and the reforms initiated by the Government to bring improvement in the sector.
Managing Director, JKSPDC made a presentation on “J&K – Power for Prosperity”, giving a glimpse of the immense opportunities that the State offers. Secretary Science & Technology gave a resume of New & Renewable Energy initiatives in his presentation, “J&K-Goldmine of opportunities in renewable energy sector”.
This was followed by a presentation by the Chairman JKSERC on “Power sector reforms”. The presentations covering the entire range of issues on power sector development were very well received by the audience comprising of Private players, CPSUs, Union Ministries and other stakeholders.
