India, Pakistan urged to resolve trade issues

Muzaffarabad , Jammu and Kashmir

Peace and development organization Press For Peace (PFP) on Friday urged India and Pakistan to address the grievances faced by the Cross LoC traders fraternity.

“Discontent is rising among business community due to discouraging policies of the government; therefore, traders in Pakistani Administrated Kashmir have decided to boycott the Cross LoC after seven days long hunger strike which went unnoticed by the concerned circles.”

Said Raja Wasim, Director Press For Peace (PFP) in a statement issued here on Friday.

He warned that on-going peace developments between India and Pakistan would be spoiled if custom and other responsible departments don’t change their policies about the Cross LoC trade.

“If grievances of traders are not resolved urgently, current India Pakistani peace process would be jeopardized because the extremists can take advantage of this situation.”

He said that trade between divided parts of Jammu and Kashmir has been halted repeatedly because Islamabad and New Delhi  regimes have failed to fulfill the demands of traders who are protesting over government slow actions and damaging policies.

He opined that development of trade could bring significant change in social-economic conditions of the region; which could only be achieved through a conducive environment.

He urged both governments to improve the logistic and communication facilities to achieve the goals of sustainable trade.
