Chandrayaan –I, is India’s first satellite proposed to be sent to Moon.It is the first lunar mission of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to explore to study the mineralogical prospects on the moon as well as a trip in search of the secrets associated with the evolution of the earth, according to eminent aeronautics scientist, Dr.Vipparthi Adhimurthi, who is an associate director of Vikram Sarabhai.Space Centre, at Thiruvananthapuram, and a key member of the team of scientists who conceived the Chandrayaan mission.
Chandrayaan is proposed to explore a lot of geological facts which are hitherto remain unexplored like the origin and evolution of earth, since the lunar surface remains undisturbed over billions of years.
Dr.Adimurthy who has been studying the lunar surface for decades is of the opinion that all facts about the earth remain embedded on the moon. Chandrayaan-I will provide information about the polar region of the moon. Clementine the spacecraft launched by USA pointed out the possibilities of the existence of water in the moon.
The southpole of the moon known as Atkins Base is a treasure house of scientific facts. The possibility of ice and water will help us to establish a transit base in the moon. This will be of help during inter-planetary missions.
Chandriyaan mission would also help us to study the availability of Helium-3 in the moon. Helium -3 is a non-radio active isotope of Helium which is rated as the energy of the future.Helium-3 plays a major role in the nuclear fission reaction.
