In the first cricket test being played between India and Australia, the second day honours went to Australia.Australia was all out for 343 in its first innings, Anil Kumble claiming 5 wickets, Zaheer Khan and R.P.Singh claiming 4 and 1 wickets respectively.India began its first innings disastrously losing Wasim Jaffer cheaply for a single digit score. Our wall,Dravid was also dismantled for just 5 runs.Only Sachin and Saurav provided a semblance of respect by scoring 62 and 44 respectively and in the result India lost its first innings for just a paltry 196 runs, our younger batting sensations both Yuvraj and Dhoni were out for a duck.Australian bowlers Lee and Stuart Clark claimed 4 wickets each and Hogg claiming 3 wickets. Australia, hence gained a first innings lead of 151 runs.Resuming its second innings Australia was 32 for no loss. The dismal performance of the Indian batsmen offset the advantage of the bowling performance of our bowlers gained over Australia on the first day.The loosing toss and the lack of adequate match practise prior to the beginning of the first test can be ascribed as main reasons for the dismal performance of our players especially junior members of our team, Yuvaraj Singh and Dhoni in particular.
