India win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2-0 VS Australia

India has reclaimed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after defeating Australia by 172 runs in the fourth and final Test in Nagpur.

The victory gave the home side a 2-0 series win, with India having defeated Australia by 320 runs in the second Test in Mohali.

The visitors, chasing an unlikely 382-run victory target, were dismissed for 209.

They had needed to win in Nagpur to draw the series and retain the trophy.

Indian fast bowler Ishant Sharma was named man of the series.

Australia resumed on 0 for 13, but lost opener Simon Katich for 16 when he was caught by Mahendra Dhoni while attempting to hit Ishant Sharma over the top.

Skipper Ricky Ponting was dismissed a short time later – run out for 8 while attempting a quick single.

Michael Clarke was lucky to survive an lbw shout from Sharma early in his innings, but the Indian quick had his man when Clarke flashed outside off-stump and was caught behind by Dhoni for 22.

Australia moved to 3 for 111 at lunch, but three quick wickets after the break signalled the beginning of the end for the visitors.

Michael Hussey was caught by Rahul Dravid off the bowling of Amit Mishra for 19, while opener Matthew Hayden followed soon after, trapped lbw by Harbhajan Singh for 77.

Brad Haddin added just 4 before he was caught by Sachin Tendulkar off the bowling of Mishra.

Shane Watson also failed to reach double figures, edging to wicketkeeper Dhoni off the bowling of Singh for 9.

The Australian tail of Jason Krejza (4), Brett Lee (0) and Mitchell Johnson (11) failed to wag, while Cameron White finished not out 26.
