Indian Kashmir Governor asked Omar to continue discharge his responsibilities as CM

 Srinagar, July 28 (Vijay Kumar) –  The Jammu and Kashmir Governor is reported to have observed that he would be able to consider the J&K C.M’s resignation only after first being fully informed about the details of the allegation against him and, thereafter, being satisfied about the verified basis thereof.  In this context the Raj Bhavan has addressed the Legislative Assembly Secretariat to be supplied with certified copies of all the relevant statements and documents relating to the allegation under reference.

            Governor asked Omar Abdullah to continue discharge his responsibilities as Chief Minister; J&K till final decision is taken .

A Spokesperson of the Raj Bhavan disclosed that the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah called on the Governor J&K on Tuesday afternoon and requested him to enquire, on a time-bound basis, into the allegations made against his moral character by PDP leader and MLA Muzaffar Hussain Beigh, , during the course of proceedings in the Legislative Assembly today and to immediately accept his resignation in case the Governor is satisfied that there is any basis therein.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has resigned in a dramatic development,. He resigned following allegations raised by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state Assembly on Tuesday that the name of Omar Abdullah figures in the list of the persons whose involvement in 2006 sex scandal is under investigation. Omar Abdullah submitted his resignation to the State Governor N. N. Vohra in Srinagar on Tuesday afternoon.

It may be mentioned here that in 2006, a minor girl in Srinagar had accused senior politicians, bureaucrats and police officers of raping her. The Jammu and Kashmir High Court intervened and handed over the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The CBI later presented a charge sheet and a trial is underway at a sessions court in Punjab.

 Meanwhile, the CBI sources said in New Delhi that the name of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah never figured in the 2006 sex scandal case in which two ministers of the then PDP regime were arrested. Sources said that the name of the Chief Minister had never come up in any way during the probe and that the list of accused questioned by the agency consisted of a little over three dozen people.

 J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in his resignation letter addressed to Governor has said that PDP MLA Muzaffar Hussain Beigh has levelled unsubstantiated allegations against his person attacking his character. “Those who lead must not only be clean but also look to be clean. At the end of the day one has is one’s personal credibility and self respect. Both of these Mr. Beigh tried to snatch from me through the charges he levelled”, he wrote and requested the Governor to enquire into the allegations in a time bound manner and if the Governor is satisfied that there is any basis in these allegations accept the resignation of Chief Minister immediately.

 The contents of the letter are “This morning on the floor of the House, the Peoples’ Democratic Party MLA namely Sh. Muzzafar Hussain Beigh levelled unsubstantiated allegations against my person attacking my character. Those who lead must not only be clean but also look to be clean. At the end of the day all one has is one’s personal credibility and self respect. Both of these Mr. Beigh tried to snatch from me through the charges he levelled.

I would be grateful, if you could enquire into the allegations against me in a time bound manner and if you are satisfied that there is any basis in these allegations please accept my resignation immediately.

I want to keep my conscience clean and don’t want to carry this stigma on my mind because I have always believed that politics should be clean and based on high standards of morality. I will always continue to strive for rich traditions which I have inherited from my grandfather Sher-i-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and my father Dr. Farooq Abdullah”. 

In a joint meeting of legislature parties of the NC- Congress coalition partners which met here today under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Tara Chand the legislators expressed their full confidence and trust in the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The coalition partners condemned in strong terms the baseless and malicious allegations levelled against the Chief Minister by the PDP MLA Muzaffar Hussain Beigh.

State Secretary CPI(M) and MLA, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has disapproved Muzaffar Hussain Beigh’s attitude in the Legislative Assembly describing it irresponsible. He said the highest standards of the parliamentary practices and respect for members should always be the benchmark of legislators.

            Mr. Tarigami described the act of levelling allegations against Omar’s person most unfortunate and un-founded.

Prof. Bhim Singh, Chairman, National Panthers Party Prof. Bhim Singh, has hailed the resignation of Mr.Omar Abdullah from post of Chief Minister this morning in Srinagar following disclosure by PDP MLA about the alleged involvement of  Omar Abdullah son of Dr. Farooq Abdullah in the infamous sex scandal-2006 that rocked the Kashmir politics in 2006.

Prof. Bhim Singh urged Governor, N.N. Vohra to accept resignation of Omar Abdullah to keep morality in politics intact. He expressed surprise on the statement in the name of CBI source trying to wriggle out Omar Abdullah out of the sexy mud.
