The Gujarat Police have arrested 10 people in connection with the Ahmedabad blasts. The police have claimed that Mufti Abul Bashir who has been arrested from Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh is the mastermind behind the Ahmedabad blasts and is a SIMI activist.
The police have also uncovered a network of SIMI activists involved in the blasts.
In another startling revelation, the Police also said that Indian Mujahiddeen is just another name for SIMI.
The accomplice:
They also added that Abu Bashir and another man Abdul Subhaan alias Taufiq planned the operation together.
According to sources, Taufiq worked with a Direct Sales Agency of Wipro in Mumbai from 1996 to 1998. He quit Wipro in 1998 in Mumbai and joined SIMI.
The police also added that Taufiq is a resident of Mumbai and was last traced to Bangalore.
However, he is still absconding.
Taufiq is also believed to have hacked into American national Kenneth Haywood’s email account.
With this breakthrough and arrests of key suspects, the police also believe they will be able to get details on the blasts in the other states like Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka and Rajasthan.
Briefing that media persons after the arrests, DGP Gujarat, P C Pande said, “From what we know so far Abu Bashir is the mastermind behind these blasts. I know that if we interrogate him here we will be able to get information on incidents in other states as well.”
Meanwhile, Mufti Abu Bashir’s family has denied that he was involved in the blasts.
“The investigations were done along with other state police networks,we believe that SIMI network is behind the blasts,” said the police.
The police also said that they have got valuable information about other blasts and leads to the email through which the blast warning was sent. Two of the arrested have connections with Lashkar-e-Toiba.
