India found itself on the wheels on the second day of the second Test Match against Pakistan at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Saturday. With three more days to go for the match and Pakistan trailing by 566 runs, the visitors’ chances of salvaging the match appears more than remote. At stump on Saturday Pakistan was 50 for the loss of one wicket. Pak opener Hameed was trapped LBW rather early in the second innings by the Indian captain Anil Kumble for a meager 21. At stumps on the second day Salman Butt and Yunus Khan returned unbeaten at 26 and 3 respectively.
Earlier, India declared first innings for a mammoth 616 for the loss of five wickets Opener Wasim Jaffer was the top scorer with a brilliant 202 while Sourav Ganguly scored 102 and VVS Laxman was unbeaten on 112 at the Eden Gardens. Home team is fast approaching a mammoth score with Sourav Ganguly completed his 14th Test century.
Wasim Jaffer achieved a well-deserved double century and Sourav Ganguly played some scintillating shots as India headed towards a mammoth first innings total in the second Test against Pakistan on Saturday.
Jaffer (202) was the only wicket to fall in the first session that saw 97 runs being added to the overnight total. The opener fell just 10 short of his career-best 212.
Local boy Ganguly’s nine-year wait for his second half century at the Eden ended as the left-hander got to his 50 off 72 balls. The former Indian captain had struck 65 on this ground against Mark Taylor’s Australia in 1998. He later went on to score his first century in his home ground, Eden Gardens.
Home team has resumed batting on day 2 of the second Test match in Kolkata. Pakistan’s tormentor in chief Wasim Jaffer has just completed his 2nd career double hundred. India had won the toss and elected to bat on day 1 and ended the day at 352/3.
India lead 1-0 in the three-Test series following their six-wicket victory in the opening match in New Dehli.
