In India, the largest democracy in the world, party politics plays a vital role.In Tamil Nadu, three major political parties,DMK and its allies, AIADMK and its allies, and the third outfit, the newly formed and uprising DMDK is growing in strength day by day and it has become a major threat to old horses like M.Karunanithi of DMK and Ms.Jayalalitha of AIADMK.
Almost all the regional parties in Tamil Nadu have their own satellite TVs, to effectively co-ordinate their party activities and popularise them among the people and to woo the voters during elections. The DMK party has Kalaignar TV, the PMK party,Makkal TV, the AIADMK, the Jaya TV,the Congress, Mega TV and recently Vasanth TV to support their respective parties.
Though DMDK has been growing in stature and popularity and also has got a considerable and significant base and vote bank among the masses, so far it has been grappling without any satellite TV and the party has been getting a wide coverage in the SUN TV.Considering the political situation and the growth of the party, the head of DMDK Mr.Vijayakanth has decided, to have its own satellite TV and the party’s organ, a newspaper.
When names like Captain’s TV and Captain Murasu etc were actively considered, the party leaders realised the stigma of English is sticking with the names. Hence, the DMDK party functionaries have been actively considering the naming of the TV and the newspaper with pure Tamil Names.
It is expected that DMDK will float its own news paper and the satellite TV in about a year or so.The party leader Mr.Vijayakanth is also concerned over the heavy investment needed for starting the satellite TV and the party’s news paper.
