A Chinese daily newspaper correspondent in india asked an obvious question at the send-off ceremony for the Indian athlets for the Beijing Games: "Why doesn’t India win medals in the Olympics? Do you think things are going to change in Beijing?"
Akhil Kumar, 54kg category boxer who is tipped to do very well in Beijing, looked unhappy and agitated at the fact that his South African physical trainer, Heath Mathew’s name had not been cleared as part of the Indian Contingent.
Boxing is a contact sport and injuries and niggles are bound to strike. Without a specialist physical trainer how can the athelets expect to play well in the Olympics or any other International events.
In a similar passion, many Athelets are lacking support by the Indian Olympic Association of not getting the required encouragement by providing facilities where as the world athelets getting full pledged support by their nations.
Indians will only get the things right if the IOA change their view of treating the athelets.
Until then, keep hoping that the athlets are doing well and the medals will come in the near future.
