Abindu Dhar, 17 years old Kashmiri Pandit boy who topped the All India level National Defence Academy (NDA) examination. He wish to like sailing on the sea and want to travel around the world. Abindu is a student of Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun. He aspires to join the Navy.
On being asked why he chose to join the Navy, Abindu replied “I like sailing on the sea and want to travel around the world so that I can meet various people and this could be possible only in the Navy”.
He told over the phone, “I want to serve the country and the Defence Forces is the best way to do so. The naval officers posted in College have been a great motivation in my aspiring for the Navy.”
Abindu Dhar,whose family was one of several thousand Kashmiri Pandits to migrate from the Kashmir valley and forced to live in poor conditions, has done the entire community proud by topping the the NDA examination.
Abindu is the first Kashmiri Pandit to top the NDA examination. He is also the first from the Jammu and Kashmir state.
Abindu Dhar’s father Joginder Dhar, An agricultural officer posted in Jammu, said his son had earlier topped the state in the national level entrance exam for admission to Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun.
It may be mentioned here that this year, the competition was very high and almost three lakh students appeared for the examination. Cadet Abindu Dhar has been a great scholar and eminent orator, both, in English and Hindi. For his achievements in various debates across the country, he was awarded the College Blazer, the highest colour, in Academics, and College Blue, second highest colour, in Debating. He is also keen quizzer and talented actor. He is the secretary of the College Journalism Club and Section Commander of Chandragupta Section. Other than co-curricular activities, he has also excelled in PT and is an active member of the College Gymnastic team. His other passions include Basketball, Hockey, Athletics and Cross Country.
Eight other RIMC students figured in the first 50 of the NDA merit list.
Other cadets in the top order include Cadet Piyush Kumar, Cadet Tushar S Chauhan, Cadet Eeshan Katoch, Cadet Kaustubh Nalwade, Cadet Bhupendra Chand, Cadet Captain Avaneendra Thakur and Cadet T Rohit Reddy. A total of eight cadets joining NDA this term, have found their place in the top 50.
In the last fifteen years, ex-Cadets of Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun were awarded Eighteen President’s Gold Medals, Eight Silver Medals and Six Bronze Medals at the National Defence Academy. At the Indian Military Academy, they also won six Swords of Honour, eight President’s Gold Medals, one Silver Medal and two Bronze Medals.
